Last week I featured David Laferriere’s awesome Sandwich bag art. Today’s it time for some Napkin Art. It seems that are awesome Moms out there as well. Nina Levy (a photographer from Brooklyn, New York in the United States) has been illustrating napkins for her two children (aged 10 and 6) on every school day since 2006.
This whole Napkin Art venture started out when Nina drew a picture of Chicken Little on her first son’s napkin. He enjoyed it and she made a habit of it. She also started drawing on her second son’s napkins when he was old enough to go to school. Nowadays it has become part of her daily routine and she takes requests from her boys. Their requests are usually related to current shows or events.
Nina draws the pictures on their napkins the night before. Normally takes around an hour to complete, but it varies from drawing to drawing. Nina signs always her napkin art drawings off in the same way with the words “Love, Mom”. Nina sees an end to this in the future, but she keeps on doing it for now to keep her up to date with what her kids are interested in and she (and her kids) are having a lot of fun with it. To date, she has drawn on more than 2,000 napkins. If you ask me, that just shows her dedication as an awesome mom.
I’m particular impressed by her style of drawing and the characters that she’s drawing. Nina draws a mean Batman and Bart Simpson. She’s also very creative when it comes to choosing who is partnering up with who on the daily napkin. Check out examples of her Napkin Art below. I’m pretty sure that you’ll be impressed by this.
