Nokia Lumia 1020 with 41 megapixel camera unveiled

Nokia Lumia 1020Yesterday the Nokia Lumia 1020 was unveiled in New York. It’s the first mobile phone in history to have a 41 megapixel image sensor – the largest sensor that has been fitted to a mobile phone.

This top end Nokia Lumia phone’s 41 megapixel camera uses a new application called Nokia Pro Camera. Combined with some technologically advanced hardware this software gives you the ability and opportunity to take professional quality photos.

The phone also has dual capture feature. If you take a photo using this feature the phone will automatically save a high resolution 38 megapixel photo (which can be edited to your heart’s content) and a 5 megapixel photo (the perfect sized photo to share on Facebook or Twitter).

The phone has six physical lenses and has optical image stabilization. It can capture blur free HD videos with crystal clear sound. Thanks to Nokia Rich technology the Nokia Lumia 2010 can handle sound pressure levels six times louder than standard smartphone microphones. It the perfect phone for those of you who like to take video at loud concerts.

The Nokia Camera Grip was also unveiled. This accessory has been designed specifically for the Nokia Lumia 1020. The aim of the grip is to make it easier to get the shot you want with one hand. The grip can also be mounted on a tripod to ensure stability. The Nokia Camera Grip will be available at an additional cost.

The Nokia Lumia 1020 will be available in yellow, white and black. The handset uses the Microsoft Windows Phone 8 operating system and has a maximum talk time of 13.3 hours and a stand by time of 16 days. The phone also supports video playback of up to 6.8 hours and music playback of up to 63 hours.

Besides the 41 megapixel camera, the phone also a 1.2 megapixel wide angle front camera, a 4.5″ AMOLED display, a 1.5 GHz Dual Core Snapdragon S4 processor, a fully integrated offline maps system, 2 Gb RAM, 32 Gb internal user memory and 7 Gb Skydrive cloud storage.  The Nokia Lumia 1020 also supports wireless charging via an accessory cover. The Nokia Lumia 1020 will be available in the United States at the end of July. No release date has been confirmed for South Africa yet, but chances are that it will be available here before the end of 2013.
