There doesn’t seem to be a lack of movie sequels in 2013: Despicable Me 2 opened at cinemas over the weekend, Red 2 is being released later this month, the second Thor film is going to blow away audiences in November and the second Hobbit film is going to amaze movie goers in December. But that’s not all: Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 is also being released at the end of September.
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 picks up the story where the first film left things. Flint Lockwood and his friends are forced to leave Shadow Falls after the insane and devastating food storm that occurred in the first film. Flint accepts a job that his hero Chester V offers him at the The Live Corp Company. The company gets tasked to clean up the island. Flint discovers that his machine is still working and is now creating mutant food beasts. He and his friends must now face beasts like hungry tacodiles, shrimpanzees, applie pie-thons and living pickles in a bid to save the world.
The film features the voice talents of Bill Hader (Flint Lockwood), James Caan (Tim Lockwood), Andy Samberg (Baby Brent), Benjamin Bratt (Manny), Neil Patrick Harris (Steve), Anna Faris (Sam Sparks) and various others. Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 is directed by Cody Cameron and Kris Pearn. Cameron also directed the 2010 direct to DVD film Open Season 3 and the 2007 short film The Chubbchubbs Save Xmas. He was also the voice of Pinocchio in all four Shrek films. Kearns is co-directing his first film but has worked as a storyboard artist, character designer and key animator on various animated films and TV series. Both Cameron and Kearns worked on the first Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs film.
No South African release date has been set for Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 yet, but I suspect that it will be released on circuit before the end of the year. I would advise you to keep your eyes peeled on the Nu Metro and Ster-Kinekor websites for updates though.
