Chances are that many of you reading this have heard about Julian Assange and the WikiLeaks website. This website was founded in 2006 and represents an international, online non-profit organisation. This organization has made headlines around the world for publishing secret information, news leaks and classified media from anonymous sources.
Great news is that the WikiLeaks story will be told in an upcoming film. The film which is entitled “The Fifth Estate” and is directed by Bill Condon (who is well known for directing the last two Twilight movies). The screenplay for the film was written by Josh Singer and is based on two books: Inside WikiLeaks: My Time with Julian Assange and the World’s Most Dangerous Website by Daniel Domscheit-Berg (a former spokesperson for the organization) and WikiLeaks: Inside Julian Assange’s War on Secrecy by David Leigh and Luke Harding (British Journalists).
The Fifth Estate will feature appearances by Benedict Cumberbatch (who has gained fame for his roles in TV shows like Sherlock and films like Star Trek: Into Darkness), Stanley Tucci (a veteran Hollywood actor who recently appeared in Jack The Giant Slayer), Peter Capaldi, Carice van Houten, Anthony Mackie, Laura Linney, David Thewlis, Daniel Brühl, Jamie Blackley and various others.
The film will premier at the Toronto International Film Festival in Canada on the 5th of September and will be released on circuit in the United States on the 18th of October this year. There is no official release date for South Africa yet, but audiences can expect the film to hit Nu Metro and Ster-Kinekor cinemas before the end of 2013 or early in 2014.
The Fifth Estate looks like it might just be one of the better thrillers of the year. Judging by the film’s trailer below this WikiLeaks story will have plenty of drama in it as well
