Johannesburg is a buzzing metropolis with a population of more than 3.6 million people. It comes as no surprise that there are hundreds of restaurants in this city. There are many pricey restaurants scattered all over the city, but there are also those restaurants which feature good value for money meals. Today I’m featuring 3 restaurants worth checking out in Johannesburg.

Rocket RestaurantRocket Restaurant, Rivonia:  This restaurant is the ideal venue for afternoon tea, a private function, a cocktail party or good old-fashioned dining. Rocket’s focus is on simplicity. Enjoy an expertly made cocktail, devour delicious Haloumi fingers, a beef carpaccio, a tasted bud tantalizing gourmet sandwich, a grilled chicken or calamari salad or choose something equally mouth-watering from the light meals and main course sections on the Rocket menu.

If you have a sweet tooth, don’t worry, they also have a glorious selection of desserts that will leave you smiling like a little kid eating his / her first ice cream. This amazing restaurant is located at 362 Rivonia Boulevard at Rivonia Corner.

PicobellaCafe Picobella, Melville: This family run restaurant is renowned for their affordable prices and delicious food. The restaurant is built into a semi that’s more than 100 years old and still contains the original wood floors and pressed ceilings.

Cafe Picobella is one of those restaurants where there is no pressure on you to order the second you walk through. You are more than welcome to just sit and relax, have a cup of coffee and read your newspaper to kill an hour or two.

This awesome Johannesburg restaurant focuses on Italian country style cuisine. Start your day with a Picobella Traditonal breakfast, ricotta cakes or a Venice Sandwich, sink your teeth into one of more than 20 different pizzas, a delicious pasta or sandwich or spoil yourself with a traditional Italian dessert (like Italian Kisses). Dukes BurgersDukes Burger, Greenside: This amazing Johannesburg burger joint is located at 4 Gleneagles Road and is definitely one of the restaurants that you should check out. Dukes use only farm fresh ingredients have gained the reputation for having Jozi’s best burgers.

All their burgers have 200 gram patties and are served on a bed of greens and their famous tomato relish. Patrons have a choice of enjoying their burgers with sweet potato wedges, potato wedges, French fries or salad. Dukes also bake their own burger buns and make their own patties with meat from the finest butchers.

Dukes Burgers offers a wide selection of beef, lamb, ostrich, chicken and vegetarian burgers. Burger names range from the “Fidel Castro” (which has a hearty beef patty flamed in tequila served with tomato relish, topped with jalapenos, a spicy tomato, a baby corn salsa and cucumber ribbons) to the “Big Bird” (which has an ostrich patty and is served with a red wine & chocolate sauce and is topped with deep fried rosemary infused butternut).
