South Africa endured the bone-jarring and bruising clash against the Samoans and won the match by 13 points to 5 in the end. They finished their group match campaign as the winners of Pool D in the 2011 Rugby World Cup. Thanks to this win, the Springboks have advanced in the Quarter Final stage of the tournament.

The Samoans were knocked out of quarter-finals contention. They needed at least a point from the match in front of a crowd of 29 734 (the biggest ever at North Harbour Stadium).
