Today is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. It is estimated that 1 out of every 3 women will be the victim of a violent attack in their lifetime. This day also marks the start of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence Campaign and is the perfect opportunity for all people to ensure that girls and women around the world live in a safe environment and are not discriminated against.
People across the world are invited to ‘Orange YOUR neighbourhood’ as part of the United Nations’ Secretary General’s campaign ‘UNiTE to end violence against women’. Take the UNiTE campaign to the streets and organise ‘orange’ events with local businesses and your neighbours between 25 November and 10 December 2014.
Hang orange flags and lights or tie orange ribbons where you have approval to do so to raise awareness about violence against women and discuss solutions that might work in your community.
Send us your photos of your ‘Orange YOUR neighbourhood’ activities or join Junk Mail staff in dressing in orange on 10 December 2014 to unite against this global epidemic!
