Remember those blissful days going to the drive-in with your parents, or, as a teen snacking on popcorn and sipping coca-cola next to your sweetheart in the car while watching a great classic movie on a big screen outdoors?
Well, now is your time to recreate those special memories with your loved ones and experience the ever popular ‘outdoor cinema’ again. If you are looking for things to do in Pretoria, this is a must.
On 17 September, 2016, Maroela Media, in association with attooh!, will be hosting their 5th annual ‘Buitebioskoop’ at the Pretoria Botanical Gardens, and it promises to be a fun-filled event for the whole family. If you love Afrikaans movies and entertainment, then this is definitely for you!
Look forward to not just one, but THREE fantastic Afrikaans movies to be screened on an impressive, fourteen meter wide outdoor theatre-like screen. The first screening will be the very popular children’s production, Heidi, followed by Sy klink soos lente, a very first screening as this movie will only be officially released in South Africa on 30 September. Then, end off this great evening of movies under the stars with the brilliant, thought-provoking Roepman.
You can bring your own camping chairs, blankets and picnic basket and find the perfect spot to ‘camp out’ in front of the screen for the evening. Your awesome hosts for this not-to-be-missed event will be Sorina Erasmus (aka ‘Flooze’) and Christo Davids (‘Errol’ of 7de Laan). Leon van Nierop, the well-known SA film-critic, will also be providing his insights into the nostalgia of Afrikaans movies, which celebrates the 100th year since the release of the very first Afrikaans movie this year. Maroela Media will also be giving special recognition to someone in particular who has made a great impact on the Afrikaans movie industry.
Come early and also enjoy the sweet sounds of bands like Meantime and 1925Band, while letting the little ones be entertained in the children’s area before the start of the first screening.
Not up for packing your own picnic basket? Don’t worry! You’ll be able to purchase delicious ‘boere’ classics at the event, including ‘kerrie en rys’, ‘pannekoek’ and biltong. For R280 you can also order a gourmet, pre-packed picnic basket, filled to the brim with delicious goodies, from Maroela.
