When it comes to buying and selling items, one always hopes for a positive and smooth sailing experience. But this is not always the case. You need to educate yourself in the different ways to keep safe. In our previous safety tip for buying and selling (number two) we covered the matter of cash only transactions. In this post we’ll be covering a bit of legality when it comes to buying and selling, whether you are the buyer or seller.
Evidence increases your legal standing
It’s a good idea to keep a copy of the ad when you are either buying or selling. In this way you know exactly what was advertised and will increase your legal standing in a court of law if push ever comes to shove.
If you are purchasing or selling items online it’s a good idea to either take a screenshot of the ad and save it somewhere, or print out a hard copy if possible. This way you have something as a physical or digital reference that can hopefully serve as evidence.
If you are buying or selling out of a physical classified booklet or magazine then you can either keep the whole edition somewhere safe, or alternatively tear out the page which should at least show the page number and the date of publishing. This will increase the authenticity of your evidence if it comes to going the more official and legal route.
Now the legal route, which one might not always have the choice of evading, and in that case (all pun intended) you need to be educated in the facts of the transaction in question, and even more importantly, you have to be able to prove it.
Yet again, safety is an important aspect of buying and selling. Thus we try to share safety tips on buying and selling. If there is a topic you want us to cover or even a suggestion, please feel free to leave your comments below.
