Most of us tune in to some South African radio stations on our car radio in the morning on the way to work or school. Some of us just have the radio playing in the background at our office. The question is not always what radio station to listen to. Often the question is what radio DJ’s should you be listening to. As always we are here to help with our list of Top 6 radio DJ’s, in no specific order.

Gareth Cliff

Not only is Gareth Cliff the controversial DJ at 5FM he is also a judge on the popular reality TV show Idols. Cliff is known for speaking his mind on not only social subjects but he also delves into political subjects some times. Cliff also likes pointing out flaws in caller arguments from time to time. Listen to Gareth Cliff on weekdays from 06:00 to 09:00 on 5FM because there is never a dull moment.

Rob Forbes

Rob Forbes recently left Tuks FM to join the 5 FM team. He might have left some of his support behind at Tuks FM but he quickly gained massive popularity under the 5FM listeners. His witty sense of humour and entertaining topics of discussion makes him a mid-morning favourite. Now that Forbes has the bigger listenership of 5FM he is sure to become one of South Africa’s leading radio personalities. Don’t get left behind, tune in to Rob Forbes from 09:00 to 12:00 on 5FM.

Rian Van Heerden

Another top South African DJ that used to grace Tuks FM with his presence.  Now Rian van Heerden has joined the Jacaranda FM ranks to make your morning commute a more entertaining experience. Also well known for his talk show Rian that pops out of DSTV decoders on KykNet. If you are into DJ’s that sometimes “klaps” it in Afrikaans Rian’s show between 06:00 and 09:00 on Jacaranda FM might be the one for you.

Barney Simon

One of the original Radio 5 (now known as 5FM) DJ’s, Barney Simon used to be the guy that brought you the Rock and Roll on 5FM and later on Tuks FM. These days you can hear Barney on Jacaranda FM between 13:00 to 16:00 on weekdays or on Sunday from 22:00 to 00:00 on Jacaranda FM. If you have a bit more of an alternative music taste or an air guitar god lives in you, Barney Simon is the DJ for you.

Anele Mdoda

Anele Mdoda is by far the most popular female DJ currently on South African radio. If the tear-filled tweets where anything to go by when Anele left 5FM you sure don’t want to miss her broadcasting from her new home at Highveld FM. You can catch Anele weekdays from 16:00 to 19:00 on Highveld FM.

DJ Fresh

DJ Fresh is known for his deep voice and his fresh beats that get you ready for the party on your way home from work. Outspoken, funny, entertaining, big and cool are all words that have been used to describe Fresh. You can hear what all the Fresh fuss is about weekdays between 15:00 and 19:00 or tune in on Wednesday between 22:00 and 00:00 of 5FM.
